View Full Version : Sacred: Look at this dev post! Sheesh!

Considering a huge chunk of the playerbase (me included) has chosen not to play this game at all until version 1.7 comes out, and we've been waiting several months for it -- And it was SUPPOSED to come out today but they posted this morning that they changed their mind and it "might" come out next week... I think this post is a rather interesting. Check it out.

1.7 is projected in July now, due to the Dev team making sure to clean up any foreseeable problems. Yes, its not mid-to-late June. Should you be ****ed? No. So shut up right now and stop whining about "Why isn't it out, you promised!" There was no promise. They hoped to get it by then. Its not going to pan out that way. Welcome to the world of Computer gaming and patching.

Do not post about "When is patch 1.7 coming out" or "Is it today? It should be today! It needs to be today!" Hell, don't even try and make a thread *****ing because the "Devs didn't meet their promise." I or any other Admin will lock and delete such threads upon sight and if the users in question are out of line you'll get a lovely tap on the shoulder unless you've already got strikes waiting.

The FAQ has a link to the known 1.7 changes, and some of the big ones have several threads floating about here discussion the changes. Search first, and when there is more info on 1.7's release or changes, it will be posted ASAP.

Got it? Good! Get back to posting and discussing

Any word of them removing the Cd-in-drive requirement?

Why is a huge chunk of Sacred's player base chosing not to play it? Just a brief synopsis please.

I choose not to play it because I found it repetitive and boring, but it more or less worked for me.

From v1.0 to 1.7 there have been so many fixes and changes its almost like a different game now, I would assume. Especially if you play multiplayer.

At least they've fixed ALMOST all the quest bugs av_wink.gif

Ah, I never tried it multiplayer. I never could get into playing pick up games on these types of games. I guess I didn't play it long enough with any one of the character types to get to a quest bug, I probably only put 50-60 hours in spread about evenly across all the character types.

1.7 supposedly fixed all known bugs, repairs all known broken quests, completely overhauls several character classes, and changes the entire method of acquiring skills.

Got it? Good! Get back to posting and discussing So what? Patches always take an unknown amount of time to release. They patch something, and realize that something else is screwed up, or something else just got messed up. It's like a deck of cards, if you wreck something vital, or change it, it can all come crashing down, and you have to rebuild from the bottom up.

Just be grateful that the devs *ARE* releasing a patch. They by all means don't have to do it... at all. They already have your money, why should they patch it? They make patches just out of loyalty to their buyers, and they feel proud of the product they made and are willing to fix any problems.

If the devs decide to say one day, "Sorry, the 1.7 patch we were talking about? We're not gonna do it. Sorry.", then you're gonna have to deal with it. You can complain, but you can't do anything about it. You can't sue them, you can't force them to release a patch. Of course, if they don't release a patch they've been talking about, they'll get a bad rep from gamers... though 90% of their customers probably don't frequent the forums and don't care about patches, so their next game will still sell a lot (if it's good), but probably not as much, 'cus the gamers hurt by the 'no release of patch' will decide to not buy the game/pirate the game.

Really, it's the overall TONE of the post that I found weird. "Shut the hell up" isn't really a normal way for a dev to address the entire community.

Duh. Just read the post. That's not a dev. posting. omg! Didn't anyone read it?

"due to the Dev team making.." <- refering to the dev team.
" They hoped..." <- refering to the dev team and what they hoped
" I or any other Admin ..." <- 'I'. He's clearly one of the admins on the official Sacred Boards. He's got -NOTHING- to do with the game.

It's like me starting to say "F'it you scoundrels! Stop whining about Half-Life 2. It's coming out sooner or later. So shut your mouth and do something usefull". And you'll go: WooooooOOOW, there! A HL-2 dev insulting everyone.

Ohhh, of course, it was an ADMIN... And we all know being a board admin automatically justifies being a complete jackass, right?

NOBODY gets to spam my boards with repetitive crap (e.g. GF would have been banned on day one).

I post regular updates (http://www.3000ad.com/downloads/uc/ucvcf.html) about my game and nobody even dreams (well, sometimes they do, so here is my response (http://www.3000ad.com/ubb/ultimatebb.php?ubb=get_topic;f=40;t=000045;p=2#000 047)) of harrassing me about it.

Good!

I'm tired of developers being pansies and letting the community walk all over them. There may be problems with the game, but the community needs to ease up, especially when it's a good game.

EDIT: Nope, the other people are right. It's just a community manager, not a developer.

As a long time reader of the Sacred forums that Moderator has long acted this way since day one. His nick is Crackseed. And he has been this way since day one. Doesn't suprise me. One thing he doesn't moderate anymore. He does admin the website but he doesn't moderate because of his attitude and overzealousness he was ticking alot of folks off.

Anyway No big deal and not a suprise.

And the large chunk of community is waiting cause it was said previously they overhauling skills and item drops. They also changing the uniques to something that isn't retarded (most uniques have very high requirements but low stats so by the time you can put them on your regular equip is 5 times better). And item drop system right now is pretty silly as well. There are some bugs like large areas covered with skeletons that won't give you any xp (and it's one of those places designed to be level grind) if you use a potion that is specificaly design to enable you to kill skelies properly. Otherwise you have to kill them 4-5 times untill they die. (You can also explode them with special moves without a potion but that also doesn't give you xp).
They are overhauling how all the special moves work, because right now they always hit. And so most char builds are built around always hitting with specials.

Truly the game was very bugy and it was poorly designed. The userbase frustration with the delay is cause this is supposed to make the game what it should've been at release.

And also I've never played mp but that's where most of the bugs are. There is a looooong thread on sacred boards which posts funny pictures about they game. All of them bugs pretty much. Ranging from potions droppping the size of a house. Weapons also doing the same thing. Being able to ride cows(thou this should've been a feature av_smile.gif ). Animals giving you quests. And so on and so on.

Sacred is a fun multiplayer game, although due to bugs we're waiting for the 1.7 patch before resuming play. People that are rude to customers like the fellow quoted and Derek Smart are probably just lacking a good self concept so are not able to deal maturely with customers and instead get defensive and insulting.

Sacred's not really of any interest to me. Maybe if it goes down to $5-10, but till then I've got plenty of other games to play.

Hehe. I like it how gladi czan dual wield gloves. Two gloves per hand. You see them clipping in one another. I wonder if they'll fix that in 1.7

Is Sacred worth picking up? I loved Diablo 1 and 2, and read the review on Sacred with mixed results.

So i'm asking... Yea or Nay ?

I got a free copy of it and was actually looking forward to playing it. Never got it to run on any of my systems, got rid of it. Made some cursory inquries about the problem, found out the game was buggy as heck and lots of people were having a TON of problems, tossed it in the trash bin.

Once it works its a very good game though.
Much better than Diablo 1 and Diablo 2.
