I volonteer at a local computer lab and i wanted to set up a mini lan for the kids there. They are running really old hardware and they are pritty young (10-14) so its sort of hard to find something they can play toghter.
Computers there are: 450mhz w/ savage 2 1ghz w/ TNT2 and 2.7celerons with Intel integrated.
Right now im thinking NFS PU, Starcraft, Age of empires any other suggestions would be apprecied.

The Command & Conquer games before Generals
Unreal
Quake, Quake II
Half-Life, Counter-Strike (maybe...)
Ahh, I used to have a list for this kind of stuff... it was on Neowin, but I can't remember the other games.

Need for Speed: High Stakes. Caveat: Will only work easily on Win9X.
Heroes of Might and Magic III. Good turned based strategy.
I76: (Nitro Pack if you can get it)

I'm going to be moving into a co-op at the end of the month, and I'll be taking over as sysadmin for the common computer room there. This is of interest for me as well, as I also want to set up a gaming LAN, but will be on limited tech for games. Keep suggestions coming, folks.

Some games I would HIGHLY recommend. My friend comes over often and we LAN a lot. First off, definitely put Rune on. You can turn off the violence if you want (turns off gore and blood). After playing Rune, all other MP FPS seem crap.
Another, if it'll run is Neverwinter Nights. Get it, it should run good if you put the details down a bit. If NWN is too slow, big, expensive, etc. then you can try other RPGs out there, like IWD (more combat based, therefore better MP), or BG, etc.
Well, those are two games I'd highly recommend. Another really great game that'll run as smooth as silk on your computers is Battlezone. It has excellent multiplayer and runs like a dream.
Oh right! I forgot a few. These games aren't violent (ie. no blood) but are superbe games. Jazz Jackrabbit 2 is definitely a game to get. ANother game that is truly an excellent game is Worms Armageddon.
Right-o. Starcraft is *always* good, get that for sure.
So to summarize, get these games:
Worms Armageddon
Jazz Jackrabbit 2
Rune
Neverwinter Nights (or get IWD or BG)
Battlezone
Starcraft

The original Diablo should run well on those PCs. I doubt Diablo 2 will run very well with the integrated graphics though...
