Most of you may have not played this game, but I did years ago.

Seems I now cannot get it working on my (Newer than back then) PC. I've downloaded all the utilities and patches that 3D Realms has on their site for this purpose and I still get an error when it's trying to "Unpack" one of the files. I Have 2-CD's of this game exactly the same and neither of them will install. Even shutting down some running processes do not seem to work. Of course the old PC was running Win 3.1 and I can't remember what version of Dos.

Any Ideas Guys??

Software running

Windows 98SE
ZoneAlarm Firewall
AVG Anti-Virus
SpyBot "Search & Destroy"
SpyWare Blaster
SETI@Home

Hardware

P-III 800 Mhz
ASUS Motherboard
256 Ram
20 Gig Hard Drive (so that's not a problem)
SoundBlaster "LIVE" Value Sound Card
CD-R Burner
"The CLAW" Gaming Controller
Battlechair "Speaker Chair"
MS Sidewinder FF Steering Wheel (USB)
X-Arcade Controllers (When I'm in the Mood for some real old stuff. hehe)
HP Parallel Color Printer
UMAX USB Scanner

Thanks

Oh yeah, How do I get to use my Avatar??.
Do I have to do so many Posts or have to be a MOD or something?. I'd like to use it cause it goes with my SIG..

Cheers,

Keith

I have the Atomic Edition and it runs fine on W98SE. I have not tried it on other OSs.

Just wait for the next version anyway. Chip says it will be out any day now....

Hmm, do I sound like I'm 2-years old??. The Damm game (Duke Nukem: Forever) has been in Coding/Production for nearly 5 YEARS!!!!

Unless your talking some nonsense about another "Patch" or "Utility" for Duke Nukem 3D, it ain't gonna happen.

Just kidding, but I do know a few things about games.

I love Duke3D. I don't understand how you can't get this to work. Boot into native DOS mode, and put in your CD-ROM. If you can't get your CD-ROM to work, here's how:

put in your config.sys

DEVICEHIGH=d:\windows\command\oakcdrom.sys /D:oakcdrom

Of course, adjust where your .sys file is. Grab the DOS CD-ROM driver from here:http://www.cdrom-drivers.com/companies/745.htm

I *BELIEVE* that's all you need to do. If not, type in LH MSCDEX.EXE /D:oakcdrom /L:G

Oh yeah, I forogot to mention, install the game from the CD-ROM obviously. It should be great. One problem I've had is after installing the Atomic Edition, it keeps saying, "Please insert the atomic edition CD", though it is in... and DN3D shouldn't need a CD anyway! Argh!

Check this out and get Duke3d to work in Windows XP.

Duke3d_w32 (http://www.rancidmeat.com/project.php3?id=1)

It works great, and supports network/internet play.

Actually the game was announced in 1997, so assuming they were working on it before they announced it, it have been in production for over 8 years.

I actually followed the development of this game from 1997 through 2002. I stopped when I finally realized that it will never be released. graemlins/av_troubled.gif
