I just snagged BG:OS cheap. I already had, never finished (*cough*snailgamer*cough*) the original BG, but and I wanted to get TOSC and that was the easiest way to get it.

IIRC, the original Baldur's Gate came on 5 disks, but this box only had 3 in it. Did they improve the compression or packaging, or am I missing disks? Those of you that bought the original saga pack, how many disks did you get?

Nope, that is right Rob. 3 discs and then the soundtrack. Yeah, they improved the compression big time. Same with Planescape: Torment. I believe the original was 4 or 5 discs, but the "dual jewel" version I picked up is only 2.

A lot of it is also that CDs can hold alot more space now.

Remember that if you have the original version, you can install all the discs and have no disc swapping.

I guess that I should try to finish this game.... one day I will..... graemlins/av_sad.gif

Yep, they improved compression. Note that *new* CDs don't hold more. There are only 650 and 700 MB "normal" sized CDs. They just improved the compression.

I have the Original Saga of BG, and the original version of PS:T (yes, 5 CDs. av_redface.gif )

Thanks for the answers everybody. I was worried since the box was a little beat up and the only thing in it was the 3 disks and a TOSC reference card. Nothing else.

To be honest though, I prefer the paper sleeves these came in to the "book" the original came in. CDs always flew out of the thing and I was always afraid they'd get damaged.

I got this pack for 2 reasons - I didn't have TOSC, and patches. I don't think this needs patches, the original does and I'm not entirely sure where my patch disk is. It's rather difficult to get patches from Interplay right now :-/

I think I've been through the first chapter twice. Always left it for a while and figured restarting would be better. I did finish PS:T though, although that bug where you could lose weapons annoyed the heck out of me. I lost the skull's magic teeth because of it, and he became useless. av_mad.gif

Sacrilege! When the monsters can only be hit with magic weapons and he's the only one in the party without one, and you can't buy any for him? Damn Bugs graemlins/av_troubled.gif

Morte's my damn favourite character. He *was* sort of useless, considering that I was *going* to be a fighter, and a good fighter at that. But I became a wizard and Morte became an excellent fighter. He can take a lot of hits, his taunt is excellent.

I guess that I should try to finish this game.... one day I will..... graemlins/av_sad.gif You can still edit a file and have no disk swaping in the "new" 3 disk version. YOu do it the same way as the 5 disk version. In case anyone wanted to know that.

I have the 5-disc version of BG and have to swap discs whenever I came to certain spots, at least on the Dell cuz I've not played it on this one yet. Kinda wish I waited for the newer version but oh, well.

The rough bits that I remember are that you copy the hard drive, then change the ini file to point to the directories where you put the disks. IIRC, there's no automated way to do it.

I'm guessing the trick works for any game based on the BG engine.

Ok. I'll try to remember to come back to this thread for that whenever I get back to BG, which is still on my 40gigHD, the one from the Dell.
