Hidden cost of driving a Prius (http://www.philly.com/inquirer/opinion/20070404_Hidden_cost_of_driving_a_Prius.html)
Not that I like the fake (consumer) SUV called the Hummer....
The Prius registered an energy-cost average of $3.25 per mile driven over its expected life span of 100,000 miles. Ironically, a Hummer, the brooding giant that has become the bête noir of the green movement, did much better, with an energy-cost average of $1.95 over its expected life span of 300,000 miles. And its crash protection makes it far safer than the tiny Prius.
BAM !!!

I drive a box on wheels, an 04 jeep tj. I lifted it by 4.5 inches, put 33" tires on it over the stock 30", and I get better mpg now than I ever did. My engine has to work less in order to maintain the tires at 1 revolution and I go farther on each revolution.
So far I've only had a few cases where I'm at the gas station and someone starts talking out thier arse to me about my "evil suv" and it's gas guzzling. I laugh at them, tell them they are nothing more than an uneducated moronic idiot, call them out to prove my jeep is soooo bad, and they cant do it.
I'll show em my trip-tick on my odometer only AFTER they tell me I'm guzzling so much gas. When I ask em how much they just filled up, it's usually around 15-20gallons. Then I show them that I got a 16gal tank and I get 300miles a tank. That's just under 19miles a gallon. They cant believe it but hey, I tell them to take thier "whatever car they are driving" and shove it up thier arse. I get the same milage they do but I get to drive offroad, drive thru snow like it's not even on the ground, take my doors and top off in the summer, and do anything thier car can plus some.......................
I hate tree hugging hippies and I love my jeep!
Well, this should make you happy, shoboy...

I hear ya Shoboy! My old BroncoII can still get 23-25MPG regularly during the summer. One time even got 26 out of the old girl. And she's an old, inefficient, gas-hog of an SUV! Bah!
Don't get me wrong, I'm all for saving on fuel and reducing emissions. I'm thinking about picking up some little high-mpg compact-car here soon, just because of how many miles I'm driving now, and I can appreciate getting more mileage for my dollars. However, I'm not one for half-baked ideas that are being misrepresented as saviors for the Earth.

If you look at my spare, you can see the mud line across the rim. I was going almost straight up! I hit the brakes when I realised that I was not just gonna tip over, but I was gonna tip backwards too!!!! This is how I settled down.
I'm sticking my arm and head out the window cause I was still teetering, I'm trying to balance the thing so my buddies can hook me up and pull me out :)
Back seat and floorboards was a MESS.............. took me about 2 hours to clean it up. And that's with taking out the seats, taking off the doors, top, carpet, everything, and powerwashing it!
But it was fun as hell!!
