I know there was a topic about this and here is the latest update. web page (http://www.newsnet5.com/entertainment/4640480/detail.html)

It is not like "real actors" make a game that much better. I did some drama during highschool. I wonder if I could get in on this av_biggrin.gif

Voice actors, either "proffesional" or not, do not make a game. Nor do they do nowhere near the amount of work on the game. Voice work is what, maybe %5 of a game's development?

These people really need to get off the invisible pedestal they think they're on.

Perhaps, enfestid, but then again if you were one of those actors who do VO's in games you'd probably be right there alongside the others in their endeavors, too. av_wink.gif

They want more money for the better a game sells... should the studios get more money for how good of work the voice actors do? Plenty of games that sell well have crappy voice acting.

These people are also forgetting that they're replacable... anyone that needs money can do the job they do -- it doesn't take special voice lessons or anything. Commercial actors do a better job and have a more important role than video game voice actors, if you ask me, and they're hardly paid anything.

Not only that, but the article states their sister union even accepted the offer. For some reason, I don't think they accepted it just to have an accepted proposal -- they probably realize it's as good of a deal that they're going to get. 36% is quite a large increase in salary.

Sorry, but I think if I were a voice actor I'd say screw the union and I'd go back to work, since chances are they need the money if they're complaining that much about this issue. If they can't afford to sit out, then why are they? I understand it's a union strike, but if it's that big of a deal, they should have asked for a restructed contract long before they decided to strike.

I highly doubt I'd be with them in any of their endeavors. I understand how unions work and all that good stuff, but that doesn't mean I'd comply with them when their views are so silly. Developers deserve more money, not voice actors. Their work does not justify what they are wanting, unless they only want a slight increase in pay for how a game plays -- which I highly doubt is the case if an agreement hasn't been reached yet.

These people need to realise that they dont have a real job. All they do is read a piece of paper outloud. What the hell kind of job like that demands a union to begin with anyway? Damn near everyone can talk, and if your getting paid just to fricken talk, bonus!

The whole idea of the SAG is beyond stupid to me. I'm in the UAW so I completely understand unions and the need for them. I've been a commiteeman, a bargining rep, and a trustee. But the way I see it, and have seen it for quite awile in the union, these guys dont have real jobs. They dont work hard, they dont acomplish anything at the end of the day, all they do is fricken talk. But they think they have it tough, they think they actually know what it means to work.......give me a break.

I have already made my views clear on this one. The SAG is should not be entertained by Game Publishers. If at all anyone gets royalties, it should be the game developers first.

I don't think that they "don't have a real job", I just think they need to realize their job normally isn't a full-time job, and it shouldn't be paid as such. It's like if someone played a role in a commercial -- they get a flat rate, they don't get percentage increases for however much that commercial is shown.

These people also need to understand that their job is nowhere near as important as actors in commercials or voice actors for cartoons. Heck, games really don't even need voice acting, it's just an added plus. If you took out voice acting, it wouldn't be the end of the world. And, like I've said before, a lot of the times developers do a lot of the voice acting on their own (Warcraft, Command & Conquer, etc). It doesn't really take a huge amount of talent.
