Come move to SC. We can start a lawn mowing business. Charge 35 per lawn with ditch cleaning for 40. Half is yours.

If it's games in the US, it's California.
So, what's the deal? Currently unemployed? What's your situation? Got a degree? Like, if you "need" a job, surely you can find a crap job, no? Sometimes, a job is a job...

Our dear Illinois governor, Rod (the socialist) Blagojevich screwed me out of my job 3 months ago. I have enough savings to last another 8 months but this does not make me happy. And I don’t want a crap job.

What one wants and what one needs are usually two entirely different things.
That's some savings you must have there, but don't let it run out.
What did/do you do? There aren't any jobs?

I do helpdesk and networking. Although at my last job I was the entire IT department.

3 months, and you can't find an IT job? Well, there has to be a job out there somewhere for a "computer guy". Have you tried job shops? Posting your resume on a job site? How many resumes have you sent out?
Alaric

Sent out a billion resumes. Posted on careerbuilder, monster, dice and others.
Life sucks.

If you haven't, I'd sign up w/ a local job shop. A temp position can easily turn into a job... that's how I got mine, and I've been here 6 years now.

I dunno about the cost of living in other states but it's pretty high in California so if you come here then consider yourself forewarned. And if you still want to live here and do some kinda tech job then Silicon Valley's where ya wanna be, such as San Jose and surrounding areas. It's also very culturally diverse cuz the population's so huge (and growing) if that's no biggie for ya. At least you'll never lack for finding good restaurants to eat at, either. Rent's gonna kill ya so if you had family in the area that'd of course help a lot till you could find your own place. Whatever you ultimately decide on what work to do and where to live good luck.

The paperindustry workers here get 3500-4000 euros a month and they had the nerve to go on strike. Do you believe it? 'We don't get what we deserve!' they say. Give me a shotgun and they would get what they deserve.

Working in the game industry would be interesting, but I'd probably hate it, since most games I see now are just mass-produced trash, like the all-too-common "movie games" or other things like that. It seems chances of working in a company who makes respectable games would be very difficult, ie. iD software, Blizzard, Valve (maybe), etc.

I know a guy who knows a guy...
I'm actually going to DigiPen this month... getting my foot in the door. Valve is right here up in Washington as are several other game studios. Texas is also a good place to look for a game related job.

If you really want to work in the game industry here is some advice.
Other work experience, special schools, degrees don't really mean anything to this industry they help some but no much. What they want to see is if you have the ablity to create a complete game not a *DEMO* .
And I am not talking about pong either. If you do this you will get the interviews and may have a chance to get a job.

Oh no, I don't want to be a developer. Well.... maybe later. I want to be tech personnel, a systems admin or something.
