Hmmm... this could be one of those technological break-throughs that changes the world, along the lines of microcicuit switches, electricity, iron, etc. Or not.

Seriously this would be pretty cool if it can start a sustainable source of power. Just in time for peak oil it seems!

Just in time for peak oil it seems! That in itself should make you wonder if it hasn't actually been around for a while...

web page (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cold_fusion)

Wikipedia article on the subject that mentions the experiment above, and places it in context. This is an exciting field, but the article makes it sound like we are still a long way from a power source.

If this is true it is not big, it is frikkin' HUGE!!!! I don't know if I would go that far, as it currently requires more energy than it makes. But it’s a step in the right direction.

For the time being, don't expect fusion to become a readily available energy option. The current cold fusion apparatus still takes much more energy to start up than you get back out, and it may never end up breaking even. Hmmmm... well, it's a new way of thinking about it...
