Hehe, that wouldn't happen to a first gen Hummer or the real military deal... at least with a good driver.

Newsflash: Someone goes offroad and gets stuck in the mud. More news at 11.

The Hummer stuck in the mud is an H1.

The busted tie rod is an H2, aka re-skinned Yukon.

On the other hand those vehicles have been glorified by Hollywood to the point where people think they can go just about anywhere with them. Besides, AFAIK, the civilian versions only look like their military counterparts.

I was a bit surprized about the events in the second clip though... could be a faulty part.

Did the front wheels purposely separate like that (and presumably the rear ones do the same?) or was the axle broken? Looked like it was designed that way to me but then I don't follow anything about those fugly monstrosities.

Nevermind. Watched it again louder and someone on it said something about popping the tire rod.

H1s are pretty close to the military version. They had to update a bit to make them conform to highway saftey standards. That is why you cannot purchase surplus Hummers for civilian road use. They will not meet crash test standards.

H2s are pretty much just dressed up Chevy SUVs.

This is great!!!!!

I go offroading all the time, in a REAL 4x4, my JEEP Wrangler. I have some pics of an H2 stuck in a deep rut. The idiot thought it was the best 4x4 in the world, WRONG!!!!!!!! He had decided not to go thru the ruts because he did not want to get his H2 "dirty", so he went around. Well the idiot didn't watch what he was doing and he slid his entire left side into the rut, getting stuck.

Needless to say the interior was soaked with muddy water, and me and my buddy hooked up my JEEP and pulled him out! That was a great day in 4x4 history.

As soon as "my" 4x4 website gets back up(web server switch), I'll post the pics.

And just in case no one knows, the H2 is the biggest over hyped "4x4" there is. It is not an offroad vehicle. It is a good upper middle class white womans grocery getter, that works good in the winter.

Thanks, Wingnut. "Tie rod", "tire rod", easy mistake to make for someone as mechanically disinclined as I am.

I can't wait to see those pix, shoboy! Will you also have some video of that day or pix only?

Only the military hummers are great. Civilian hummers are pieces of crap, expensive crap though.

I'd get one if i could afford it, and afford the gas, and take the looks of disgust and disdain from all the eco-friendlies. graemlins/av_sly.gif

Obob, your pug looks like he's missing his left leg. I guess with a dog like that you don't eat him all at once, huh? graemlins/av_cheesygrin.gif
